It was an English name that had a coat of arms. the name died out. A cherokee or Creek indian baby was left on white peoples doorstep during the civil war. The white people took him in and named him Charlie Woods.when he was of legal age he changed his last name to Bankester. so my dad thinks all living Bankesters are related since it was a name that died out previously.

I don't think it's a common name. I've never met any one with that last name that I was not related to.

Hey Lisa J,

Do some DNA testing. Start a group or get into Family Tree DNA group. Get others to join that you are unsure about. This will give you a picture. You can also prove or disproove Cherokee or Creek indian ancestory using DNA.
