My 3 month old pitbull puppy broke her leg a little over 3 weeks ago. She has had her cast replaced 2 times since, and the vet said that she is healing very well. She started getting sores on her leg and chewing at her cast a couple days ago. I am not happy with the service that we are getting from our vet. Anyways, the cast has been removed but she is limping. Is this normal since she has not been able to use her leg for the past couple of weeks? I have never broken a bone, so I am not sure what to expect. Thank you for your input.

yes it's normal giver her a week or two to get used to it...it probably still bugs her, but if she's still limping after 2 weeks go to another vet.....if you're unhappy switch vets

yes it's normal.i do have a hard time understanding why the vet would replace the cast two times.sounds like you need a new vet.i'm retired from the proff.
unless the dog seems to be in pain she should be alright.but whatever you do,do not go back to the same vet!i would take the xray you already have if you need to go to a different vet so they could check it to make sure there was no bone spur that was overlooked by vet #1.OK I JUST RE_READ THE STORY>YES IT's proably to late to fix the limp unless you want surgery but,the first vet was totally in the wrong.the leg proably didn't get set right but,it's to late it's already fused together.

yes this is seems normal to me. Think about it as if you had a broken leg. You went to the doctor's and they but a full legged cast on your and didnt give you crutches for balance. You would learn to walk with the pain or walk on all fours or hop around on one foot. Then you go back to the doctor's and they take the cast off, it would feel sorta weird right? Anyway, does your dog seem to be in pain? If the limping continues, take your dog to the vet. (I hope they dont charge any money because its just an overlook)

Yes,it's normal. My cat broke his leg and had the cast on for a little over three weeks, and he limped for about a week after his cast was removed. The leg gets stiff, having been immobilized for a few weeks, and it takes a little while for it to loosen up.Your pup should be fine.

It sounds normal. She hasn't been able to use the muscles and exercise them because of the cast.

If you are unsure, give your vet a call and see what they think. Then after this is over, get a new vet if you are unhappy with one you have now. Trust in your vet is extremely important.

Good luck with the puppy...hope his leg is ok!

I would say its normal for a few days or less, but make sure you inform the vet after the 4th day because it can be something healed improperly. It will take a while for the dog to get use to equal weight again. Do some doggy exercise!

Try putting a fake cast on the other leg, she will limp on that leg for a bit, then remove it. She will soon be running around as if she did not get hurt in the first place.
