I think people need to stop obsessing about having the perfect day and remember what it means to get married. Too many people get too involved with the planning and the garbage that goes along with it and forget that all it is, is a big party.

Not to me, I have been married for 33 yrs.
I offered all 3 of my children $5000 & forget the big reception, want to see the great pictures of the receptions. No takers & all have bought home & had children. It means more when they earn it themselves or so they say. We paid for all weddings & receptions - trying to keep them reasonable - they have been married from 4 years -11 years & seem to be going strong.
The only gift other than wedding gifts has been a completely paid for college education for each & advice - they can not come home - make it work or use your education.
After that they are on their own, well except for lunches with my girls & gifts for grandchildren. Birthday & Christmas gifts always, but all are doing well.
So I say dream on!!! Life is good!

$72 billion per year is spent on weddings but $175 billion
is spent annually on divorce, mostly on litigation. So divorce is much more profitable. Too bad people don't save $247 billion by having a small wedding and avoiding divorce.

I agree. We have to have hope, but many spend way too much on weddings. I have had friends whose parents have offered to give them $100,000.00 for a wedding or a house and they chose a wedding-how dumb! Property values appreciate, a wedding is just to show other people. I agree with you.

I agree with you, but yes I did meet these types of people who will sink themselves in debt for weddings and when I advised them not to, they turned their backs against me.
It was so weird, but that makes me glad I am not that irrational.
