Suffering on this Earth DOES have a purpose, as does every action committed by people.

It was introduced into our human race because of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden when they broke their relationship with God and lost the chance to be perfectly happy and at peace forever.

Yes, Satan can make us suffer more through his many temptations for us to sin, but humans actually were the ones who created suffering, not Satan.

People don't devote their lives to understanding the suffering of others, but they devote their lives to lessening that suffering and telling those who suffer to have faith and hope that their suffering is for a purpose; either to make them stronger or to give them virtues they never had or remove vices they had.

So yes we should know of it because Jesus made it perfectly clear through His own suffering that we should always value the poor, downtrodden, and yes, the suffering people around us if we are able to and not suffering too much ourselves.

There are two different kinds of suffering. Those who suffer for The Lord- well that is a good suffering- Meaning, we are hated by the world, and bashed on- and any other type of suffering we come across, we know that the Lord has the victory and knowing that HE is in US, we are rejoicing over the fact of suffering because we know this life is passing- that what is important are the things "above" not here on earth.

For Believers:
"Rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when His glory is revealed" 1 Peter 4:13

--The world suffers, and that is entirely different- who do they lean on? What faith do they have? Faith in false gods? Where is their peace? Satan loves to see suffering in the world....That is why so many NEED JESUS!

I don't concede that suffering is the property of Satan but, that being said, suffering is the one thing that we all share as we live. The saying goes that death and taxes are the only guarantees, but taxes can be avoided and death only happens once (usually), but suffering is universal.
If we want to understand the world and combat the effects of Babel, then suffering is a good place to start.
On the contrary, it isn't so important of a focus for everyone every day that we need to be bombarded with it in the media.

Suffering is part of life. To simply place it on satan is theologically problematic.

Working to end suffering is part of working for justice.
Justice is integral to the Christian faith--if we don't work for justice, what's the point?

Love. When we love others, we are concerned for their well-being. Also, it's probably a really good idea to understand the enemy (Satan) before going into battle.

Yes. So churches can tell you that if you don't tithe you will end up like that.
