Skip a holiday wedding or it will suffer from low attendance.
Many people will already have out of town plans for a holidays.

I looked on snopes.com to see if tradition was for or against it, it doesn't say specifically, but here's what it does say:

As for choosing a month:
Married in January's hoar and rime,
Widowed you'll be before your prime.

Married in February's sleepy weather,
Life you'll tread in time together.

Married when March winds shrill and roar,
Your home will be on a distant shore.

Married beneath April's changing skies,
A checkered path before you lies.

Married when bees over May blossoms flit,
Strangers around your board will sit.

Married in the month of roses — June,
Life will be one long honeymoon.

Married in July with flowers ablaze,
Bittersweet memories on after days.

Married in August's heat and drowse,
Lover and friend in your chosen spouse.

Married in September's golden glow,
Smooth and serene your life will go.

Married when leaves in October thin,
Toil and hardship for you gain.

Married in veils of November mist,
Fortune your wedding ring has kissed.

Married in days of December cheer,
Love's star shines brighter from year to year.

Especially lucky days for weddings are:
January: 2, 4, 11, 19, 21.
February: 1, 3, 10, 19, 21.
March: 3, 5, 13, 20, 23.
April: 2, 4, 12, 20, 22.
May: 2, 4, 12, 20, 23.
June: 1, 3, 11, 19, 21.
July: 1, 3, 12, 19, 21, 31.
August: 2, 11, 18, 20, 30.
September: 1, 9, 16, 18, 28.
October: 1, 8, 15, 17, 27, 29.
November: 5, 11, 13, 22, 25.
December: 1, 8, 10, 19, 23, 29.

Monday for wealth,
Tuesday for health,
Wednesday the best day of all.
Thursday for losses,
Friday for crosses,
And Saturday no luck at all.

According to these, January 2, 2007 would be the LUCKIEST day to get married, but if it's not really about luck or anything like that New Year's Day would be a very sweet day to get married. Starting the new year in such a romantic way would be dreamy.

Absolutely...but be prepared to pay 10 times as much for everything (from catering to flowers to locations fees) because of the holiday.

I don't see any reason why not! Starting out the new year together as husband and wife, that's what I call a new year's resolution.

wow I think that's cool, you will have two parties in one. I think it is also very memorable because you will also be there while counting down the last days of the year. I always want to marry on Holidays too, it's like two parties in one.

Very cool, but keep in mind your guests may not be in the mood to drink and/or may be hung over.

Sure, as long as you don't mind everyone being hungover at your wedding.
