take it to the local animal shelter, or put an ad in the paper, and hang pics up around town.

Having recently taken in a stray that we will likely need to find a home for, I have found that our local rescues don't take animals from the general public, but only rescue from kill shelters. If you are unable to invest the time to find this puppy a good home, I would suggest seeing if you can find a no kill shelter in your area. This will give him/her a fighting chance at getting a familiy.
