What's the deal with ceramic flat irons?

Question

Is it true that they don't damage your hair? (Is that even possible??)

I happen to have one, but I believe it's only "ceramic-coated". What does this mean?

I personally use both ceramic and regular flat irons and the difference is supposedly the ceramic irons get hotter. But the key word is ceramic coated... once the coat burns off you have the non-ceramic iron. Also ceramic irons are more costly.

Any type of heat with damage your hair. For a sleek look though any type of flat iron will work. Ceramic works better though because it holds the heat evenly so when you are ironing your hair it will heat it evenly. If you are worried about damaging your hair make sure you dont use heat on your hair too often. Skip blow drying and ironing for at least three times a week. Also always get a trim or haircut every few weeks. And use products that suit your hair.

ceramic irons actually help lock more moisture into the hair than metal flat irons. use a heat safe product on your hair like Aveda Heat Safe to prevent damage.

Of course if you choose not to properly wash/condition your hair you will find it in had shape. Good products are on the market to combat this.

I use a flat iron everyday, but my hair is in tip top shape from using quality products consistently.

Even if it is only ceramic coated it still protects your hair using infra-red heat. Mine is ceramic coated and the coating is chipping off. Ceramic ones also don't make your hair frizzy.

true ceramic irons, such as Chi, do NOT damage your hair. I am a stylist in training, so I use them on a daily basis. You can also use a thermal protection spray on your hair prior to ironing or curling.

i personally don't like flat irons. they DO damage your hair. i have thin fine hair so there's no way i would use one...if you do use it try not to use it often and remember to take good care of your hair....ex. conditioning treatments.
