Demographics would be my guess. Most YA users are below the age of 25. They ask things like:

"my BF beat me and cheat me but i luv him 2 much 2 leave. wat shud i do?"

They also want to enter their name somewhere and get a 12-generation tree with a family coat of arms for each surname, without working for it, the way they can download music without paying for it.

The GenForum and Ancestry boards get a couple of thousand Q a day. RootsWeb has 28,000 surname, county and special interest mailing lists. Genealogy is extremely popular. From my experience, on-line and in the county genealogy society, most of us are over 40. We know how to spell and punctuate, too, except for some of my cousins in W. Virginia.

Hey Artleb,

The people using the internet are doing their genealogy, and do not apparently care to spend time helping others. Most of the questions here are cursory beginings. Occasionally, someone needs to be pointed to records, or Ellis island, or some special place.

But I do not see anyone having records offering them up. Perhaps the guidelines of the community prevent that sort of chatting. Genforum is a better place for that. But if you ask a good question on Genealogy, someone here will try to help!

We also get a variety of - not Genealogy questions here. That discourages many of the Genealogists that have participated in the past. Some of those folks are here, Contrary to your statement. Hope that helps.

I don't know where they are. I have noticed that most of the genealogy questions on Answers are really not genealogy related. I have not tried to post any direct questions here based on the information I have seen, because when I am working on my genealogy I don't want snide or crass answers.

I don't know about anyone else - but I'm here!!! And I work on my genealogy about 3 to 6 hours a day.

I am, I've been researching my family history since 1992 with the help of my husband, hes been doing his for a lot longer, I used to think it was boring and for retired people, how wrong you can be, we have found as the years have gone by that more and more younger people are starting their family history too and great because its a big part of your life and really very interesting too, its amazing what you turn up in family history, just wish we could have some of our questions answered by family who have no interest in it, shame because they know so much and aren't interested, hope your research is going great and your enjoying it.

I would love to know more about my family blood lines.I am alittle bit of everything so i would really have my work cut out for me. I did some history digging a few years ago and what i found out about some of my family made me not want to know any more. i want to be able to respect my ancestors. Some of the things i learned were upsetting, but I think i'm over it now and would like to resume my search. your question inspired me. thanks.

It is not really a genealogy website. It is a genealogy "help" website. There are dozens of genealogy websites.
