Ha ha ha ha.
My husband and I had practically nothing when we got married. We were both working and living paycheck to paycheck. Of course, we were eating out every night (as I did not want to play house or have him be the happy-in-the-kitchen-hubby) and spending most of our non-working time either in the bedroom or at Starbucks, sipping on four-dollar coffees.
We've been together for ten years now. Needless to say, things are different. We budget better and finally have equity building in a house.
We had fun, but if I were to do anything different, I would have bought a house sooner. Even if we had purchased a studio apartment or a one bedroom, we would have been better off financially, saving money for a bigger house later without thinking (by exchanging an equity building mortgage for the monthly drain of rent).

Well, I know for sure that now an average wedding alone costs at least $10,000. So if you are planning to get married put that into consideration. Also if it is just you two, meaning without kids, start off with a small place and gas efficient cars. Trust me this will come in handy. Also with daily needs like car maintenance, food, bills and personal needs, the both of you will probably need to make $40,000 per year if you can.

My husband and I had a closed ceremony with just witnesses. It was lovely and very personal. We payed for the licence, the church fee, flowers, and some food and champagne for a small party with friends afterwards. The whole thing cost us about $500.00.

I would think that they need enough money to pay for their apt/house, car and insurance. Groceries, personal items such as clothes, electronics, etc. It really depends on the couple.

between how much you want to spend and how much you have to spend for the wedding. because there is life after wedding and this is the real life when your past mistakes will be brought up over and over again. :):)
