i so agree! i always see these movies that make your kids smarter.. what happened to spending time with them and teaching them their abc's instead of having a video teach them? there is now a video that helps teach your child basic movements like clapping their hands.. come on, teach your kids to clap their hands. it's ridiculous.

We have a couple. We don't park our baby infront of the tv though. We have it playing, while he was on the floor during his tummy time, or even on his back with the play-mat. Occassionally, he would love to just stare at the beautiful picutres from the Baby Monet dvd we have. He absolutely loves music too. He won't watch the entire thing because he would be playing with his toys, but here and there he would look at it. I have no problem with that at all. Even now that he's 13 months-he really doesn't watch tv... but when a commercial with a song comes on, he will just stare at it... it can be funny, but is pretty neat- I think he already loves music- he even sings in the car with the music playing.
I don't agree with putting any children infront of a tv for that long, however, when our son was colicky the first couple of months- those dvds really helped calm him.

they are marketed to make the babies "smarter". Unfortunately that is NOT the case. Most studies point to the latter.
I have a friend and I called the other day and she had her 2 month old baby watching Baby Einstein. I think that music is a much better choice.
Of course if it is done in moderation then I don't see a big problem, I just think that an infant is way to small.

Are you clueless???? Do you not have children of your own? So many of those videos teach kids about safety, nutrition, God, numbers, letters, shapes...the list goes on. No I dont think a child should spend all day in front of a TV but videos can be used as a educational tool. Didn't you ever watch a video at school??? Are they trying to rot your kid's brain? NO! I have a very smart little neice who watches the animal planet. She's 6 and knows a lot about animals because of animal videos we have bought her.
Lighten up a little

I think these videos are trying to simulate the "Mozart Effect". Where classical music is supposed to have a positive effect on temperament, cognition, learning, and intelligence. My daughter seemed to enjoy them as an infant and in early toddler years. I don't believe they are meant for you to park your infant in front of them to stare at for long periods of time. I think, that there are far worse things that we need to worry about protecting our children from. Television is a reality in today's society, and as long as you closely monitor and limit what your children are watching. Their are many programs that you can allow your children to watch that are educational, and entertaining. So I guess the answer is yes parents really buy these.

As long as there is interaction between parents and babies watching a few baby videos once in a while won't hurt. When people use tv as a baby sitter then there is a problem.

I know lots of parents that buy them. I received Baby Einstein DVDs at my baby shower. I don't think it's healthy for a baby's eyes to watch TV, but she enjoyed the colors and the classical music.

My children watch movies and TV. They are all making straight A's and one is gifted. As long as you control what they watch and make sure they do their homeowrk, then I don't see TV as bad. Why question other parents? Raise your kids as you want to and the rest of us will do the same and some of us will actually make good decisions.

studies show that alot of things kill brain cells. Almost everything you eat or breath on any given day kills brain cells. Those baby Einstein videos are great.

Baby einstein is the best. It stimulates the young mind, not destroys it. And what about videos or shows from discovery, national geographic and animal planet? There are alot of good quality shows and videos that teach and help reinforce what you are teaching your kids.
