I've got an 8 month old and he's humping everything, just wondering when he's ready to breed.

Really, he's not ready yet. Normally male dogs will start humping at 6-9 months, but their sperm is not ready until 1 1/2 years. If you breed to early, you may have to deal with under developed or still born pups.

most dogs reach sexual maturity at 1 year old, or a few months past the 1 year old mark. He's just acting "horny" to put it bluntly, because he's getting older and his hormones are fluxuating as he gets older. If you really intend to keep him unaltered, you had better prepare yourself for this behavior to be perament, unaltered (unneutered) male dogs smell worse, and have a disturbing habit of markind every single thing in your yard from trees to bushed to lawn furniture, and believe me, the smell lingers long after he's done his "business". And he may settle down a little as he gets older, but he will most likely continue to "hump" any dog he meets that isn't a male, whether it's a fixed female or not. So you need to think long and hard before you decide whether you want to keep him unaltered or not.

Sounds like he's ready for it now. At least he's willing.
