If your 18 year old is not helping out in any way then give them 2 choices. Stay to help out or move out. If you have to throw your 18 year old out then there must be a valid reason, so go for it.

you can...and it's "an 18 year old" not " a 18 year old", but anyway, you have the right but I don't know if it's what is best for the child at the time. You can usually tell on your own whether they seem to act responsible enough to fend for themselves. do they have a job? Do they go to college? do they do household chores? All those things you have to consider before kicking your CHILD out of your lives! That I think would be cruel. maybe you can work up some sort of building plan, like he can take a part time job at the mall, or just as long as his grades don't slip and that he is generally a good child, there will be no problem in keeping him until he is financially ready and able to move out on his own.

If you take him to a college dorm, he can start being on his own, but until then I don't know if he's going to be sucessful in getting a highly paid job and supporting himself completely, since there are so many bills and expenses to pay. But this is your son and you can do whatever, but dear God I pray you don't make a bad decision of "kicking" someone (that you love) out of your life.

Yes. And I think that if a mother believes that she is doing more harm than good by keeping their child at home, or the child is not pulling his or her weight, then I say go for it. BUT Try this: Make a contract that clearly states what is expected in your home(school, work, chores, etc.) and explain to the child that that is what needs to be upholded or they can live somewhere else. Have Him/Her sign it. Hopefully that will make the consequences clear, and you wont have to kick them out!

at 18 you are an adult. she has every right in the world. the question should be " why does my mother want to kick me out".

yes, an 18 yr old is considered an adult.
I don't know why a parent would want to kick their child out though.

It's very possible and it happens everyday. They are of legal age so no one will punish you for it. The question would be, can you live with the decision to do that? It is up to you, I don't know what the deal is but it has to be something really important for you to come to that conclusion. Good Luck!

Yes. Pack up their things and change the locks. At 18, they are legally an adult and you are not obligated to give them a home.

At 18 the person is a legal adult. If they're not "pulling their weight" finanically and are not in school, not contributing then hell yes it is possible and I applaud any parent that does.
