I'm on 2005-06 National Dean's List and have chance to go to either Beijing, China or Sydney, Australia. They also offer to go to Europe but I was all over there... So, tell me where would you go and WHY?

I'm not the only one going there you know, it'll be a group trip where we'll meet China's or Asutralia's top businessmen...

Having been to both, I would say that either is a great opportunity. It just depends on what you want to see, and when you are planning on traveling there.
China is amazing to see, especially when you consider that buildings and culture there have been around for thousands of years. The Forbidden City is phenomenal as is the Great Wall.
As pointed-out by others, there is a natural language barrier within China, though many in Beijing speak English and recently most of the road signs were converted from Mandarin to combined Mandarin/English. The people are very nice, but Beijing is VERY crowded and depending on the season, very smoggy.
Australia is great as well. The Opera House, the Sydney Harbor/Bridge, the downtown area and any number of several hundred beaches up and down the coast make it a great place to see. You can head Northwest if you want to see the outback or down South to Canberra if you want to visit the capital and go cycling, skiing, hot-air balooning (again, depending on the season). No language barrier per se unless you run into the true locals (the Aborigine).
In the off-season, you need to watch for jellyfish in the coastal waters, but this is well-known and publicized for tourists.
Probably more to see and do that's "familiar" in Australia, but again, I think both are great for different reasons.
Both will be affordable as the dollar and pound are both very strong against the local currencies!
If you could ONLY see one, and will never have a chance to go again, I guess I would say "Australia".
When exactly are you planning to go?
Good Luck!
Both

Australia. They speak English and there are about 1 Billion less people there. Not only do they not speak English in China, they don't even use the same alphabet. The sightseeing and culture may be good, but good luck trying to communicate with anyone or figuring out what anything says.
btw...congrats on making the Dean's list!

Australia because it is non-communist and friendlier toward America, and is a better place to be if there is a bird flu pandemic.
Australia is an expensive place to visit, so if this is expenses-paid you are pretty darn lucky to get the chance. I would also jump at the chance to see the zoo that Steve Irwin built up north of Sydney.

I would go to Australia. It's a beautiful country with a lot to explore. I've always wanted to go there, but haven't made it yet. I guess it depends on which culture you'd like to explore the most, so when it's time to make up your mind, go with your gut instinct. It's usually not wrong :)
