Not only do u gain valuable experience, but you feel the satisfaction of giving back to a society where a little love and understanding is so preciously needed ....

As long as your time and trouble is not taken for granted and you're goodwill is not used or abused and shown disrespect. Well, OK. It's the type of thing you can get more personal reward than the effort you put in. If you are a people and not money kind of person, it's for you. Nothing lost in trying. Some volunteer work is very dangerous and can cost you your life. You'll be well looked after and paid well, but you've got to have the brain to survive when the going gets tough. eg. British army, Afghanistan. All said and done, It's worth a shot.

I think volunteer work is great. More people should do it. There is a lot of good causes that could do with help. It's very rewarding to do volunteer work, knowing you are making a difference for someone. Another great thing about volunteer work is that it's a way in which almost everyone can help. It doesn't matter whether you are rich or poor, young or old, healthy or disabled etc., all that matters is that you are willing to dedicate some of your time to helping others.

I am definitely FOR volunteer work.

I did three years voluntary work when my kids were young, it got me out the house and gave me something to do, built my skills and confidence, gave me the opportunity to do training for free etc. Also as a volunteer you are not politically tied so you can go to the boss at the top rather than having to go through the chain of command, also you can be off if you are not ready to commit to full time working. As long as you have good boundaries going into it, you should be fine. One of the organisations I volunteered for gave the the opportunity to do SVQ 11 Community Development Work, and I am now employed full time as a mentoring Support Officer with the largest lone parent organisation in Europe. If it hadn't been for my voluntary work, my life would never have taken this path. I am definately For it!

Generally I've found it a great thing to do - as long as you're volunteering for someone who cares about the work you're doing! There are so many people out there who want your help, but who cant be bothered to treat you decently! There's a list though of some decent charities to volunteer for on http://www.intelligentgiving.com/how_to_give/give_your_time_the_list.

Totally FOR volunteer work! Gets you out , met people, rewards are in the form of that feeling that you get out of no other activity, there are so many needed skills out there that are sometimes only learned by trial and error, sometimes you can prove to yourself that a new skill is just what you needed to feel good about yourself. that is always a good thing ,age is no factor, all ages are needed as volunteers

I'm for it. I have done over 500 hours volunteering. Now I work as a Volunteer Coordinator recruiting volunteers to come and help out. It feels great knowing that you have done something out of the kindest of your heart, and not for money.

Definitely for! I worked full time for ten years as a volunteer and I am sure I got just as much out of it as I put in.

One hundred percent for it! I've work for charities and know how invaluable volunteers are. I've also been a volunteer many times and it's a good feeling to know you can put something in ... some day you may need to take it out.
