Art describes what is in us, science describes the outside world. I think both are equally important.
Art tells us what the human heart is; science describes how it works.

Science. With science you can begin to grasp the complexities of how the human mind came to invent the brush, invent the pigment, invent the canvas. You can grasp the complexities of the fingers holding the brush, the muscles moving the brush, the eyes guiding the brush.
The making of a thing is far more important than a thing. Once the process is finished, the thing has become worthless. Art is in its making, not the final product. Once a painter is finished, the result should be thrown away from the journey is completed.

If we're talking about means of the heart...I think that the human heart is expressed in art more so than science. Science is cold calculations, you can prove everything. Art is more of a "feeling" thing. You have to be able to express yourself clearly (at least in your own head) in order to produce art. That's my answer. Art.

Dear Return:
The answer to your question really depends on who's asking. If a scientist is making inquiry, he will discover one area of the heart. The physical area; the blood flow; number of beats per minute. But if an artist is seeking to discover, you know he will find another area of the heart; the intangible area; the emotional area; the areas of deception, compassion, hatred and love. He will also find the indifference that has come to plague so many people of the earth in these latter days. And there is so much more.

If you are talking about the emotional "heart" then my first thought would be Art. But wait - what about psychology, sociology, philosophy and history. They probably can teach you a few things that you wouldn't find in an Art museum.
I'd have to go with - Both.

Definitely a bit of both. How else would one achieve all that one has if it wasn't for the arts and sciences and the doors opened to someone else because of the results of both services to humanity.
