Drinking water was a bit uncommon in that day and age due to its usually unclean state. More often it would have been brewed into a light ale or mead of some sort, or juices would have been drunk instead.

Jesus is the Living Water...He told the woman at the well if she would only drink the water that He was offering to her she would never ever be thirsty. Read John chapter 4.

yeah,
in that day water was dangerous to drink unless you could find a pure source. Wells of the day were dangerous. That is why wine was such a prevalent drink. It is sterile.
But if you remember Jesus first miracle was changing water into wine.
