I am wondering what people's real opinion is of missionary workers, and of the work they are doing. Do they really feel that it is a calling to this type of work or that they are just doing nothing? I believe it is very important and that it is at times work that does not receive a lot of credit, what do you think?

James 2:26
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

-It is very important! And God leads many to be missonaries. I dont think you should do it to receive credit though- but to do it out of LOVE for the Lord and for others. If you are doing it to receive praise, that is in vain. God knows the hearts of men- and knows who are truly serving Him.

Mark 16:15
And he said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.

-Not to mention help the needy and feed the hungry...which many missions do.

personally think there should be no missionaries unless the people ask for them. otherwise the missionary is a prime example of the
------------ ( fill in the blank ) Religious belief system forcing their belief system on others who may not want it. these missionaries represent the idea " my Religious Belief System is the only right one and if you do not worship the way I tell you because I know what is best for everyone then you are all doomed. What kind of Missionary? Christian? Mormon? Catholic? Hindu?

I support christian ones, but I have also met others from the other faiths. If it is Christian, yes I believe missions is a good thing. Most of the christian missionaries I have met are very dedicated people filled with faith in God and virtue.

They have the blessing of GOD and do his work without fear.
People that don`t believe find it hard to see things the way missionaries see it.

I'm sure most think they are spreading the word they believe in. However, when the Bible states (if you believe in the Bible) that MOST of the people on the earth will not be saved ( many are called, but few are chosen ), then are they really spreading truth or lies ?
Chances are, they are teaching lies, unfortunately. - Leading, ultimately to their damnation.
Some go to scam foreigners too, pretty sad.
I think it can be good, but not typically.

I agree with Muffy. Missionaries are called of God. They need our support. They help bring souls to Christ.

I think they are great. I have two cousins who went on missionary (protestant) and I'm (catholic) very proud of them. One cousin even thought about being a preacher afterwards, and I would support her if she did.

I think its ridiculous to go over to other countries and try to make them like you. (Not you in particular, I meant the generic you). I don't understand why some people are so arrogant to believe that their way is the only way, and that others cultures should not be appreciated.

As far as the individuals themselves, I'm torn. On one hand I think they're nutsos, but on the other hand I admire their gumption.

I think it takes a lotof guts to do it, going to another country when sometimes you're hated because of your beliefs and preach the gospel and risk a chance of being pursecuted? That's gutsy

i think they are just brown nosing hoping to get an extra cookie from god. *shrug* i dont care for them really. the rest of the world works for money, they beg and claim they are doing a good deed. ~.^

id much rather send my money over to those people to feed them, then to give to a missionary to go over there and claim god is feeding them.
