I think it's a terrible idea, not because you'll be proving anything, but because you'll be abusing a system set up to help people absolve personal guilt and become better people in general.

But to answer the question you're really asking, if you were to confess wildly atrocious sins to a priest, there is a chance the police may be busting your door down, assuming they can find you, and assuming the priest follows local guidelines. Say you live in Adelaide, Austrialia and confess to molesting small children. The priest would be obligated under local law to report it to the police.

This is by no means the norm, and generally speaking the Catholic church is opposed to sharing confessions with outside sources for the obvious reason that people would be less willing to confess.

How you or anyone feels about this is a personal matter, and as far as I'm concerned lying in a confessional will only give you one more sin to confess.

Confession is not a game. And yes it is true if you tell a priest what you have done he cannot tell another soul he has taken a vow of secrecy. If you plan on going to confession and tellin g the priest things that you have never done, then you will be making things worse for yourself. You'll just have to go again and confess that you lied to a priest, that is if the guilt doesn't kill you first. So no I don' think this is a good idea.

Just to warn you: It is not that he can tell no one else, it's that he can tell no one but a superior.

That is, if a priest has a confessed murderer on his hands, he may address it to the Bishop. If the Bishop feels warranted, he may address it to the Vatican. If the Vatican feels it is warranted, the person shows no genuine remorse (by confessing BOTH spiritually AND secularly), and is thus a threat to society, the priest or bishop *MAY* be released to report the offender to the police anonymously.

Why not just show some respect period, hm? I'm an atheist and may find the rituals a bit ludicrous, but ultimately, most Catholics aren't out shoving their religions down everyone's throat. If non-christians want to pick on christians, which they shouldn't, but if they DO, there are far better targets.

I would say this is not such a good idea although priests keep privacy if they think you have commuted murder they will most likely tell the authorities and let me tell you murder is no laughing matter. Also in the bible they have the ten commandments and one of those orders is to not murder so like i said he would most likely tel the police. Get a life buddy.

No, it is not a good idea. First of all, you are lying, that does nobody any good. You are putting a major burden on him, if he believes you, as, because of his code, he cannot tell the police anything, lest he be defrocked. Secondly, you are making a mockery of another persons religion. I am an athiest, and to be quite honest, people who make fun, belittle, or condemn another person's religion are, in my opnion, vile creatures. I respect ALL religions. Do you appriciate people condeming you and your beliefs? I don' know about you, but I get tired of being told "People like you..." and "Drink water now...", so I wouldn't chastise anothers beliefs, or let any of my friends chastise them also.

Confessing is no joke. For practicing Catholics, what you are proposing doing is a slap in the face. It is similar to burning the flag. If you are bored with life and looking for a thrill, ride a roller coaster, it isn't likely to get you in trouble with the law.

i don't think fabricating serious stories are ever a good idea----it is lying and you are mocking a faith that takes confession serious. The priest would be sworn to secracy but think of the trouble you would be in if he didn't.

actually a priest can tell on if you you tell the priest you PLAN to do something. he has to keep it a secret if you confess to a crime already committed.

Hey the bible said as one things he has committed the sin, so if you was to lust after a person in your heart then you have as done that deed. If you think of killing someone then you have committed the sin. Do you get the drift. You should conves you sin every time you think in a day.

First of all, You are to confess your faults one to another, not to a priest. Call no man father.
Second of all, you should not lie, even to a false priest.
