I think it's happened to all of us at some point in our youths.

What was the reason mommy/daddy/aunty/grandma/etc. forced you to get a new look?

Thought it'd look cute?

As a punishment?

Let's hear what you guys have to say on the subject!

My mom made me look horrible. I had nice long wavy hair when I was little. For some unknown reason my mom thought it would be cute to cut it all off and give me an at home perm. I had dark brown plastic glasses also. Do you remember Saturday night live when "Pat" was on there? You know, the one where you didn't know if it was a boy or a girl. Well guess what? I looked EXACTLY like that! I could have been her twin. It was soooo horrible. I don't think I'll ever get ever it.

I had bad habits of getting gum in my hair, cutting out the parts that were to hard to brush and getting my hair tangled in 'curling' brushes. I think this was enough to drive my mom bananas- I hated short hair but she kept making me get my hair cut short. By the time I was a teenager these were not issues so I could do what I wanted with it- except when she thought I would look so good with a perm- she got an at home kit, had no clue what to do with it and completely fried my hair. I am determined , within reason to let my kids have their own style- as long as they take care of their hair and clothing- as long as it is appropriate- even if I hate it- I try to let them be themselves.
The only time I have taken control over my girls' hair was when there was a horrid lice outbreak and it seemed impossible to break free of them- we all went short short then.

Until I was 11 years old my Mom had total hair control over me. Unfortunately she would never pay a real hairdresser to cut my hair so she always did it herself...total boy's cut every time. Propped me in my brothers high chair in centre of the kitchen. Straight bangs, straight across the back, straight over the ears...oh my God I get ill just thinking about it.

I was never a real girly-girl...I was always a tom-boy so I never really thought about it too much...until I spotted my first boy-crush. I complained about the hair issue to Mom who replied with..."as soon as you can look after it you can do whatever you want to it." So that was it...it has been long ever since.

And she still to this day 25 years later STILL goes on about how much better I would look with short hair...like her. I don't think so...not in this lifetime.

Up until the age of 18 my mom has complete control of my hair style. She wanted it a certain way at all times. I begged her for a long time to let me get a stacked bob cut and when she took me to get it the lady cut my hair into pretty much a bowl cut and it was way shorter than I wanted. Plus the lady just styled is badly. My mom made me go to the mall afterwards to 'show off' my hair cut, and I cried the whole time. THANKS MOM.

between the ages of 6-10, my mom always kept my hair long with bangs. i look at pictures of myself with that hair and it made my face look so chubby. i wanted it short but my mom wouldnt let me. finally when i turned 11, i went to a salon and had it chopped off so my hair was just above my shoulders. big mistake, ugly as heck! now im 18 and my hair is long just without bangs.

In the 60's had to have short hair, I wanted it long. They said it was so I wouldn't look like a shaggy dog.
Just grew it out once I left home.

Of course, it's part of growing up. Every kid, at some time, pushes the limits set by their parents. Conversely, Every parent reaches their limit and does what needs to be done, whether the kid likes it or not.

No,but I cut my own hair the day before my Mom took us to get professional pictures taken, and boy was she mad! I didn't do such a great job, and she had to take me to a salon to get it fixed!
