no, brown will not cover up black. i had my hair black for 3 years. and it took 13 hours to get the black out of my hair. your best bet is to go to a salon and have them do some corrective colouring.
black and red are the hardest colours to get out of your hair. good luck

It depends of the hair color brand you are using. Some brands have more peroxide than others, those will light up the hair, so your black hair color will turn kind of reddish brown with the brown color. Remember, the roots are going to look lighter color if you apply the brown over the black.

No, as a cosmetologist I can tell u a lighter hair color will not cover a darker hair color. You first would have to lighten the darker hair then apply the brown color. I would not recommend doing it urself, hair lighteners can be tricky and you can over process your hair easily. Not knowing what you're natural color is, I'm not sure what to recommend... If you are a Blonde and you can't bear the sight of your roots I would say visit a salon to have it fixed. If you aren't looking to put much money into it, you might be better of letting the hair grow out on its own.

if you hair color was brown and you colored it black thats a small but yet big change. My friend has brown hair but she colored it back and when her roots began to show we tryed to color it brown again but it didn't work because the black was too dark....I can't tell you what to do but i know it would be easier to just let your brown color grow back out.

probably not, its REALLY hard to change your hair from black (or any dark color to a lighter one, but black in particular) without bleaching it first.
