Most problems you might run into with painting a mirror is that the paint will chip off quiet easily. You might need to put a coat of epoxy on it, pref. West System. Basically use any material to rough the mirror up, wool, sand paper, then put a couple coats of West System epoxy on it. Once that is done it is basically like a primer for most things. If you use house paint you might need to put a sealer over the epoxy, but the epoxy is pretty much does the job and allows you to paint over the top without having any mirror paint chip off over time. You should replace it. If its fitted in with a frame and you do not want a mirror, replace it with a wood panel.

You have to replace it because any topical paint will chip away due to the surface of the material.
