His adopted mother made the costume from his blankets found in the space ship that brought him to earth. (why the spaceship was destroyed and not the blankets was never explained.)

To clean his suit, Superman would fly into the sun every once in a while.

since the suit is also impervious to bullets it is also impervious to the heat of the sun.

Not dirt, but sweat from Lois Lane can get stinky after a while, and it's off to the dry-cleaners with the old spandex.

The costume isn't bullet, or dirt-proof, Superman is the bulletproof one, his costume if left unwashed probably gets pretty rank.

Well, its not his costume that has the super strength to resist bullets, its his body. But yes, I think the suit does ocassionally need w good washing.

Well, kryptonite dust really does stick to it, and he has to get someone else to wash it off for him. He mentioned to me the other day that he would like to find a solution for that.

Its probably wash and wear. He flys through a rain storm to wash it and closer to the sun to dry it. I don't think he uses starch.
