I am so glad I found this forum! My ex-husband had a septic infection supposedly caused by a kidney infection. Now he has what appears as "clouds" around his brain, and now he is very different, gets lost when driving, jumbles his words...he says its from the sepsis and will go away, maybe? Please give advice, we have 2 kids together and i'm worried he will never get better, he's getting worse all the time and that's all he will tell me.

Please keep in mind, we are divorced and his doctor won't talk to me.

I read your question yesterday and went home to ask my future sister in law who is an rn. Someone being septic means that they have a very bad blood infection and unfortunately the bloodstream goes EVERYWHERE in the body.. even the brain. When you introduce a foreign substance in the crainial cavity some really strange things can happen and what you are describing are some of the normal symptoms that will occur. I gather that they had him on some really strong antibiotics throughout the course of the infection and that portion of the treament has passed? The body takes time to sort things on its own and that is about the only option you have in dealing with the brain, surgery is the last line of defense but in this case its not a viable option.. i mean how do catch "clouds" with a scalpel? Just remember that body does strive to heal itself and it will do its best to do so.

Be patient, but also be persistant.. ask questions, do some research.. let the doctors know that you are not fooling around here.. if they dont explain it well enough to you, keep asking until such time that you DO understand.. if you have a friend that is knowledgable, take them with you. Ask what other alternatives are available and if not WHY NOT.. dont take a simple no for an answer.. you'll find that the more you ask intelligent questions to medical people, the more cooperation you'll get on the information side. let me know if you get any more info..
