I'm no professional but I think the problem is that the kid is NOT yours. She may feel like you are giving this woman attention through her child. Maybe she feels that you are trying to keep a connection to this woman through the child. But when all else fails, just mention that trust is the foundation of a relationship. If there is no trust, then there is nothing for you to build anything on.

I would strongly suggest that you dump the new girlfriend. If she can't appreciate the fact that it shows you are an awesome man who cares about a child that you were around for 5 years and get over her own insecurities and petty jealousy, I don't think you will have much of a future with her. She sounds very selfish.

she is SELFISHLY jealous. It is YOUR choice not the new girlfriends. You and the kid have become close and that needs to continue to some degree. You might of split up with the kid's mom but you didn't with the kids. Explain to the new jealous girlfriend that the kids were there before her and she needs to deal with it maturely. Don't slam the kids for your and the x's decisions to split. It is not the childs fault.

I'm sure u love your x kid. but don't this kid have a dad. your not the real father. let it go for you and your new girlfriend can move on. if it was your real child then your new girlfriend would have to except it to be with u. but sense it's not she don't have to except it.most women won't. if u felt that way u should of have adopt the child then any one your with would have to except it like if it was your real child but sense u did'nt do that let it go in move on.

While you may love your ex's child, you have to move on. Your new girlfriend feels uncomfortable with having this child around. It looks like you are holding on to the old relationship.
Put yourself in her position and imagine how you would feel. It looks like the child is a link to your ex.
Take care,
Troy

The word is jealousy. She doesn't want any reminders of your past in her face. Trust issues.

Maybe she just likes you and your kitty and does not want anyone taking her time away with you alone?
