Other than a hair conditioner: is there a good moisturizer for the hair?

An olive oil and avocado mask works well as a hair moisturizer.

Scoop the flesh out of a medium or large avocado and put it in a blender or food processor. Pulverize while drizzling in olive oil until you have a smooth creamy texture (not runny). Comb through hair and put a shower cap on. Leave it on your hair for at least an hour, overnight if you need intense conditioning. To remove, just shampoo with a gentle shampoo (be sure to still use your regular conditioner afterwards) and rinse well.

This is a very gentle formula, so you can use it once a week or once a month as needed to help with dryness.

I use a hair syrum that Fructis makes- it is supposed to help with shine- but i use all Fructis sleek and shine products and my hair is very healthy. The hair syrum only needs a slight drop in wet hair- its like an oil, so you dont want to use too much.

PS there are a lot of products (aka crisco, mayo) that will weigh your hair down and flatten it and make it look dirty.

Beer. It sounds silly but beer with a good thick malt is good for your hair. Just pour it over your hair, wrap your head in a towel and chill out for 10 minutes. Then rinse.
