my friends and family and people in general don't believe long-distance relationships can work, is there anyone out there who had one that worked or that led to marriage, because people in general also say that love can do all things

a close friend of mine dated a girl in OK, we are in MI. They got vonage and talked all the time for a few years. The are even featured in many vonage ads now because they got married and are very happy.

Okay I have an experience about one that didn't work.
We met on a holiday, he lived 180 miles away and for the first year we saw each other about twice a month and talked every day. We had a great time when we were together but really missed each other when we were apart. For the second year of the relationship we saw each other every single weekend Friday to Monday. We couldn't live without each other. He turned down a chance to play for a big rugby team and I lost out on a lot of my friends (which I completely regret now, and I am very fortunate they understand my reasoning and haven't abandoned me). Towards the end of the second year I started to realise I was missing out on going out with my friends, my college work was suffering, I spent the whole week moping around because I wanted to see him.

I did love him, don't get me wrong but I am so much happier now we broke up. I get to go out with my friends here, meet people and my studying is going much better. So I personally don't think it can work in the long term, unless you can make definite plans as to moving in together. You can't spend your whole life missing someone and never have a light at the end of the tunnel for when you can be together properly.

Sometimes I miss him but I know it won't work so its pointless to even bother. I think after two years you know whether its true or not and if it had been true with him one of us would have had the guts to move to where the other was but neither of us was willing to do that.

Depends on the individuals. You can't NECESSARILY expect to find your soul mate in the same town as you.

It really depends on how far away you live and if you have met. I've dated a girl for almost 2 years now that lives hour away. I also had a friend that dated a girl for a year and the she moved to another state. They broke up a month after she moved.

i dated this guy for 7 months in a long distance relationship. it was great! we really loved each other but unfortunately they dont always work cuz u cant be with eachother as much as u want to so u constantly wonder what are they doin? are they cheatin? but in some cases they will work u just have to build that trust. good luck.

I've been with my girlfriend over a year and now we're engaged, we met on myspace and we're still happy together and i thought i would always find someone to love me and to love them but not to love and trust this much, this is above imagination.
