Many say the world will end on that date since the mayan calender also ends. but if you're christian, no one knows the day or the hour, but God the father, therefore I think It might signify a spiritual "rebirth" when "man" elevates his level of understanding of the universe and himself to a whole new level>

AND what level would that be. If you were a true believer you would know that there is only one level of spirituality meant for mankind and that is the one that is found with the Father. I highly doubt that the mayans were Christians so they can prophesy about the end of this world but that doesn't make it so. There have been many different groups and people that have made predictions about the world ending and all have been proven to be wrong. YOU cannot believe all that you read or hear unless it comes directly from the bible or is given from the bible. So far these prophets have been 100% accurate in their predictions and common sense would lead you to believe that track record than one that is less accurate.

Its possible. Even the bible doesnt say the world will end. A new age will come in which many call the "Messianic Age" or the "Millennium" but the world doesnt end at that time. According to the bible the world will be renewed at the end of the "messianic age".

you answered it yourself...it is just another date, that had some significance to some people, a long time ago. And, for those who say it is stated wrong...21-12-2012 would be the european way of saying 12-21-2012.....

Just like all the hoopla when the millenium changed--there was to have been widespread panic, major power outages, etc, and what happened? Business as usual....don't live in fear of something you have no control over anyway. You can't do anything about it, no matter if it was true or not, so what's the point of worrying?

My theory is that this date is exactly 2 days after my baby turns 8. OH NO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR ME?nothing except I'll be broke from throwing him a party.

lol, same way the world was ending in 2000... was going to create technological disaster? just cause certain things end dont mean it will. however ive heard many theories on world ending in 2012.. but who knows. i guess we'll all find out together huh!

Actually I think it means that the Mayans ran out of either ink or the kind of paper they wrote on at that point.

Maybe the Mayan calendar ends on that time because
a. the engraver ran out of room on the stone he was working on
or
b. they simply got sick of chiseling, and figured that was good enough for now.
I mean, they did plan ahead... way ahead.
