I just sent a pkg to my brother who is out to sea right now aboard a US Naval Ship... I understand that it goes from my post office to San Francisco's Fleet Post Office, got that part... but how long from the time it is at the FPO, will it take to get to the ship that is at sea?

depends on where the shipi s, whether its part of a larger battlegroup and how it receives the mail.

If the ship is part of a battle group, it receives reguarly scheduled mail drops, either through COD, Desert Duck or during UNREPs. If the ship is operating on its own, hoever, they basically only get mail when they are close enough to a port to pull in and get it, or if a nearby ship can send it over.

Last deployment, the ship was operating on its own, but was able to land a helo, so they got mail maybe once a week.

I don't know how long it takes mail to get to a ship. However, mail to Iraq and Afghanistan can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months to get there.
