THE SOLDIER
It is the soldier, not the protestor, that guarantees freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the priest, that guarantees freedom of religion.
It is the soldier, not the journalist, that guarantees freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the police officer, that guarantees the right to due process of law.
It is the soldier, not the judge, who guarantees the right to a fair trial.
And it is the soldier, the one who honors the flag, salutes the flag, folds the flag when the day is done, and protects the flag; who guarantees the right to burn the flag.
Without men and women who love freedom so much that they are willing to stand up and fight for it, and yes, even give their lives for it, there is no freedom.
To answer your question, my dear friend, every time someone bashes our President or the war in Iraq or the military, despite my anger I have to smile a little bit. See, without me and my three million brothers and sisters who wear the uniform, those people wouldn't live very long after spouting their diatribes. As much as it aggravates me to hear such anti-American sentiments, they serve as a constant "status report" that freedom is still alive and well here in my country. However, I usually point out to those people that the U.S. Armed Forces is the only thing standing between them and an oppressive, totalitarian regime where the penalty for speaking out against the ruling body is death -- if you're lucky.

I have been a soldier for nine years now. Putting up with people is a daily activity that we have to face. Don't get me wrong most people appreciate what we do but there are the "weird" ones out there. We do what we do not for the attention but because I feel that most of us have something inside that drives us to do it. Protecting our country, our families, everybody lucky enough to be born in this great country regardless of their opinions or beliefs. My duty right now is being a recruiter for the worlds greatest Army and the people that we run into daily makes me wish I could run them over with my car. The best ones are the ones that thank us for what we do but tell us that there is no way they would let the grown children do it. Talk about a double standard. Its as if they are saying thank you for my freedom as long as your willing to put your life on the line for it but I will not do it.

I have been in the Alabama National Guard for about 2 years now & I have loved every minute of it. I just think of all the positive instead of the negative. I have been in uniform making a quick stop at the store & been chased down so that the woman who had lost her son in Iraq could tell me that she is thankful for what I do & have done. I like when little girls & boys look up at me with huge, innocent eyes & ask me questions with pure admiration in their eyes. I love it when my son points out a flag from yards away with exclamation & then points at mine on my shoulder. I love it when my mom sees me in uniform & tears come her eyes b/c she is so proud of me.
All of these things & more, could be said about doing another job but not all can say that its b/c of being in the military.
Thank-You for your support.

In one ear and out the other. As long as I know that I am doing my job that is all that matters. I try to ignore the negativity because I know that there are people that support the troops over here and overseas. My mom gets up early in the mornings that I have drill to see me in my uniform and she says that she is so proud to have a soldier in her home!

I can only speak for myself. I am an active duty soldier, and the reason I come to work everyday, and do my job for the country is to give our citizens their 1st amendment rights to Freedom of Speech. Whether its good or bad that they say, they are still free to speark their mind. Whenever I hear something negative or bad, I always remind myself that Karma is a biotch.

I am a soldier and a "negative" person.
I love our troops and I believe in our constitution. I will never question a soldier's loyalty. It's just unfair that some don't believe what we are fighting for.
The cause is in dispute. Many soldiers overseas and in Iraq feel the same way.
God love america...someone has to.

I don't think the negativity is directed towards the soldiers but the war that they are fighting. If we really respected them and cherished there life we would only ask them to fight if we were absolutely sure that the fight was the right one to be in. We can sit at our computers and talk a big game of respect and "great job guys" but I prefer keeping them out of needless harm.

I hope any American military personnel reading this knows that the vast majority of Americans support the troops, and feel very deep gratitude to them. They are unbelievably unselfish and brave - truly the best America has to offer.
God bless our troops!
