It does say six days, but days according to whom? God has a different veiw of the passage of time then we do. Also, even from our point of veiw, days are differnt lengths according to where you are on earth. Speaking of which, a day is also a concept that is entirely based on our earth's rotation.

The bible talks about evening and morning before the sun is supposed to exist. At this point there was a period of light and dark. This could symbolize a few things: yes, it could be literally day and night, but it could also be summer and winter (as it would be at the north poll :-), or maybe even warmth/ice age. Of course, it's very unlikely that this was what the writers of the time thought, but it's a possible interpretation nonetheless.

It is true that one day to us is like a thousand years to God.That is just to say that time has no significant meaning to God.,like it does to us.He always has been and always will be.That is inconceivable to mortals like us.
The Bible clearly states that all was created in 24 hour days.Genesis 1:5 says "and the evening and the morning were the first day." Genesis 1:8,13,19,23,and 31 all say "and the evening and the morning" which constitutes a 24 hour day,not 1000,1,000,000 or 1,000,000,000 years.Morning starts a day and evening ends a day. When God inspired man to write the Bible,He knew people would try to interpret it differently, and thus the words "and the evening and the morning were the first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth day."

If you were to say: "In my Granfather's "day" they drove model A Fords". I would know that you were not talking about a 24 hour period, but instead you are talking about the period of time long ago when your Grandfather was young.

The Genesis account, and the language of the Bible allows for the use of the term "Day" in that very way. The term day can mean "age" or "era" or "epoch". In fact look at the context in Genesis 2:4. In that location clearly day does not mean a 24 hour period.

A very important proof of this is that the 6 creative days came to an end....but NOT the 7th "day" on which God "rested". The apostle Paul indicated in his writings that the 7th day had not ended. Clearly the 7th day is way longer than 24 hours.

The creative days spoken of in the Bible refer to the preparation of the earth for humans. We do not know how much earlier "God created the heavens and the earth" (Gen 1:1).

The fact of the matter is that each of the creative days could have lasted hundreds of thousands or even millions of years.

Now consider the physical evidence. The scientists dig down through layer upon layer only to find that the various layers MATCH the description of the epochs or days of creation found in Genesis. Life also depends on the photosynthesis of plants and the chloroplasts which result. These proccesses took lots of time to produce the benefits to man and animal life which would come later.

The fact is that if "creationists" had argued in harmony with the Bible instead of insisting that creation was only 6 literal days long only about 6,000 years ago....then perhaps the true creation account could be taught or at least stated in the public school ciriculums.

From time to time I discuss this with people who are very intelligent and reasonable about most things.....When I show them the evidence and offer scientific arguments........they always fall back on the comment:"well, I can't explain it or prove it, I can only say that I have faith that if God wants to create the earth and everything on it in 6 literal 24 hour days then he can do it!" Well, I say their faith is misdirected and I wonder what else they misunderstand about God. Perhaps more people would check out the Bible's message if they were clear on the Bible teaching of the creative eras.

The Bible is not a book of science, but it is scientific and true!

if you've read the book Inherit the Wind, you'd see the same exact question. Of course, it is also answered in that a day is not a 24 hour period. A day for God can be a hundred years, a thousand, or even billions of years for us. Anyone who confuses the word day in the current revision of the Bible is reading it wrong as the original text in Hebrew, or even the translation to Greek, may denote a word that may coincide with day but also another term for time.

According to the Bible, one day is as a Thousand Years to the Lord!!

A day is does not mean a day!

It is a representation of time, not of a 24 hour period.

According to the Bible, God created plants a day before creating the sun. So if you are going to theorize that one day to God might be a thousand of our years for instance, then you'll have to explain how all those plants survived without the sun to produce photosynthesis.

I dont believe it was meant to be taken literally. There were even Rabbis hundreds and hundreds of years ago that believed the universe was about 15-16 billion years old.

interesting, i made this point too, but i was the one who got ridiculed. youd think from christians theyd be a bit more respectful, i got called stupid and stuff for asking this. however i agree with you, a day to god could be amillion years to us. who knows. (this would explain earths age, dinosaurs existance - or lack of coexistance with man) but no i think they like to leave gaps in their stories.
