I would think it would be something like a salve. My family still uses salve for cuts. I imagine iodine, hydrogen peroxide, and rubbing alcohol were also probably available.

In South America, I believe they used some kind of ant for a stitch.

Sometimes plain heat was used to carterize the wound and keep infection from spreading.
