No state allows the carrying of a pistol or revolver without a permit. Period.
This information is easily researched on the internet if you'd take the time to do so. Drive around with a loaded blunderbuss in your car and you'll have ample time for research if you're caught.

Like 99% of gun laws it depends on what state you live in. Don't listen to idiots like Quasimodo1957 just spout off what they think is the law and have no idea what it really is. In Virginia for example it's legal to openly car a gun with no permit, and Alaska and Vermont require no permit at all!

For most people having even an unloaded weapon without a permit is against the law whether or not it is in the trunk. Driving around with it loaded is even worse.

Many states allow you to keep a hangun in certain areas of your car (glovebox, trunk, locked compartment, etc) without a permit. Check your the laws for your state. A permit usually only applies to keeping a hangun on your person.

No, not in most states. Without a permit you ought to carry the handgun unloaded.

In the state of Florida, any twenty-one year old adult may have a loaded handgun in their vehicle as long as it is securely encased. This is provided that they have not been convicted of a felony or do not have any injunctions prohibiting ownership of a firearm.

It depends on the state - and since you didn't mention what state you're in, I'll just give you a link to http://www.packing.org where you can find out for yourself. Just click on the state drop-down list in the upper right portion of the homepage.

Absolutely not, in Illinois you can have a gun in your car, but the gun has to be in a case and the ammo must be separate and not within reach

Most states consider your car an extension of your home(house). So, generally speaking, yes.
