Standard Italian is based on the Tuscan dialect (that of Florence), and this is what is taught in school and spoken on television.

Sicilian (Lu Sicilianu) is usually accounted by linguists to be a distinct Romance language, no more related to Standard Italian than say Catalan is related to Spanish. Most natives speak it, and at the street level, is widely spoken in preference to Standard Italian.

Actually, the language spoken in daily life in Sicily is called Sicilian. It is related to Standard Italian, but is different. Most of the people of Sicily can also speak Standard Italian, but Sicilian is their native tongue.

It's not wrong to say that Sicily is IN Italy. It is part of Italy, the same way that Hawaii is part of the US, or the Isle of Wight part of the UK. The official language is Italian, but I believe the Sicilian dialect, which is similar to that spoken in Naples, is still widely spoken, though rarely written.

I believe they speak Sicillian. I believe most Italians don't consider Sicillians as Itlaians because of the mix of Italian and African blood (Sicily was ruled by Carthage, an African empire, at a point in time). From what I understand, the italian and sicillian language are considerably different.

The first-class method to do it's to head there. I spent months in northern Italy finding out that sort of Italian and I met a few humans from Sicilia as good as a few humans from Napoli. The dialects are very complicated to realize even for my pal who's a local Italian. Definitely be taught the language first after which attempt to research the exceptional dialects. I endorse taking note of track from humans from that field (despite the fact that track does not continually mirror dialects). Also you will have to talk along with your mom and grandmother in Italian. however the first-class approach palms down... Vai in Italia! In bocca al lupo!

Sicilian, a dialect of Italian (much like American English is a dialect of the Queen's English).

May God bless and keep you.
