where I live, people just turn off the outside lights if they aren't handing out candy - that is a sign enough. If you put an actual sign then yes something MAY happen. Close up the house and go out to dinner / movie etc. OR just walk around the neighbourhood and watch the kids but make sure all lights in house are off.

I think you should just turn the lights off on your porch and front yard. Luckily, I live in a condo, and children are not allowed to do door to door trick or treating. They have to go to the front lobby for candy collection. Yeah, but when I used to live in a house, I used to turn off the lights and sometimes kids would still knock, but I would just not answer. They eventually go away, and don't put a sign. You're right, that might result in a big mess for you and your family! Good luck, Asalam Walaikum.

DON'T PUT A SIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please sister don't do that that is just asking for it, sad but true. Just turn the lights out and don't answer the door.
Remember this is Halloween TRICK OR TREAT. And some people take that very seriously, or some kids take that seriously. I hope there are not many adults running around egging or toilet papering houses, or what ever little nasty trick in running though their head.

I do not go out of my way to celebrate Halloween, for I find nothing to celebrate. However, I would not turn a kid away that knocked on my door. There is always candy in my house so I would give them whatever I had. To turn children away would be more harmful than embracing Halloween.

Simple solution: go out for the evening (come home around 10PM) and keep your house dark...no lights inside or out. This is generally a universal sign that you don't participate in the day's festivities and celebrants should simply move on.

Just leave your front porch light off. That's generally what people do when they don't want people at their door or they run out of candy.
Growing up, we never trick or treated at houses with the porch light off.

That is so sad! I live on a side street and am lucky to get a half dozen little demons at my door each year! And I always hand out chocolate bars! It breaks my heart that I don't get more. I can't wait to move!

Perhaps you could hand out slips of paper with info regarding your beliefs or a web address?
Maybe leave your light off and if they still knock, explain why you aren't celebrating. That will surely make them think twice about knocking on a door with no light on.
The only other way is to put up a sign. You could just put up a sign that you are out of candy. No one needs to know.

I would give out Bible tracts with a candy cane and the story how it relates to Christ even though any candy will do. I would still give out candy
