I have not heard much about this car. Is it a good car? Reliable, fuel efficient, affordable, comfortable? How is it compared to the likes of the Corolla or Camry? Is it available in the US?

It's a small car, made for fuel economy and not performance. Fuel mileage ratings are slightly better than the Corolla. They have been selling it in Europe for several years now and just became available in the US this past year.

It is affordable, but the cost of a Yaris, can be more expensive than a New discounted Corolla, so shop around.

Only 100hp in the Yaris, compared to 130hp in the Corolla and 155hp for the 4 cylinder Camry.

Personally I'd stick with the Corolla.

Look at a Chevy Cobalt, Honda Fit or Nissan Versa before you buy. I can strongly suggest them because of Toyotas common problems and ugly styling. Last year Toyota had the most recalls, but the media "failed" to notice since millions would stand against them because of thier reputation. These days reputation is nothing, technology advances so fast it cant keep up. For ex: three years ago GM was one of the worst companies, now they have the most top-rated vehicles, and the quality/reliability surpasses Toyota. Honda is still on top of the reliability ratings. Ford also had more recalls than GM and DaimlerChrysler combined, for reasons like exploding engines and wheels falling off. The top-pick for budget/econo cars is the Chevy Cobalt. Its only 11,000 base, is rated 5 stars, extremely safe for its class, biggest in the class, decently fast, comfortable, and a uniquely good looking car. Here is a quote from the Washington Posts review of the Toyota CAmry "one of which is the Chevrolet Malibu, which in my real-world driving experience has been every bit as good and reliable as the much-ballyhooed Camry but has been maligned primarily because it is a Chevrolet". That says a lot about the whole reputation thing. Dodge CAliber is good looking as well, but isnt rated as high. If you insist on a Japanese vehicle the Honda Fit is rated well an is the most versable with its well-designed seats that fold in almost any way. Its surpasses the Toyota and Niassan in looks as well. The Nissan Versa has the highest quality interior and is the biggest of the Japanese hatches. If you want space and comfort in a Japanese vehicle this is for you. On the other hand we have the Toyota Yaris and Ford Focus. They both have ungainly styling and a worse reputation. Common problems with Toyotas are plastic rattling until it falls off. People then complain that when they take it to the dealer to be fixed they just say "The cars are made with so much plastic its practically impossible to fix". On the Yaris you have to select EVERY option, nothing comes standard so be prepared to rack the price up past an alternative, its that way with all toyotas. The Focus has a record for dying a few months after buying, and having many little problems. READ THE REVIEWS and the Cobalt will win. A good alternative would be the redesigned Chevy Aveo (not the aveo5 hatchback) It has a freshend look an quite a few quality upgrades. Its on the bigger end of the econo boxes. (the cobalt is a small sedan). I hope this helps, and if you have any questions fell free to ask

Yes the Yaris is now available in the US. Previously Toyota sold a car named the Echo which was called the Yaris in Europe and Asia.

The Yaris is very reliable and gets great gas mileage (40 mpg highway). It is available with a 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engine making 108 hp. The Yaris is considered a subcompact car and is smaller than both the Camry and Corolla.

Right now the Yaris is selling at full MSRP price because it is in very high demand. For the money I would suggest buying a Corolla instead. There is bargaining room on a Corolla so after you haggle a bit the price you pay for a Corolla is about the same as that of the Yaris. The Corolla is bigger and powerful (1.8 liter 4 cylinder making 126 hp).

I even have a Corolla which gets 38 on the hiway/32 on the city (automated). as quickly as we offered it, we paid $ninety 9 over broker bill. I pre-negotiated the fee using the broker's information superhighway internet site (Tacoma, WA's Titus-Will). I shown the broker's fee on Kelly Blue e book's internet site and that they have got been using the comparable numbers. customer comments - available on the library - is a large thank you to get each and all the documents. A Yaris might do a touch greater ideal, possibly as much as 4 greater MPG. It has good acceleration. A Camry with a 4 gets 32 however the backside fee is larger. evaluate the Scion XB if roominess is a concern. The 2008 is a foot longer and HP has been better. yet assume 28 MPG. The Matrix is quite much like a wagon; it makes use of the Corolla chassis. Wait somewhat and spot what the 2008's are like. If there is no vast transformations, weigh your suggestions; the 2007's could be discounted. Plus, word of the low expenses of activity Toyota promises.

*The answer from "NASCAR24" is relatively bias*
Yes, Toyota did have many recalls in the past year, however, they released MANY new models, which in turn, will mean MANY recalls. Toyota, out of all brands is one of the best with terms of build quality, build materials, and overall reliability. This is not including luxury brands for obvious reasons. The highest ranked company in terms of overall quality was Lexus. This is a fact, not something I'm simply saying to defend myself. Lexus is a luxury brand that was developed by Toyota, and is completely owned by Toyota. Many, however, not all Lexus products are based on Toyota products that currently exist.

The Toyota Yaris, is a get-what-you-pay-for kind of car. It's amazingly good on gas, estimated at around 51mpg (Not exact Spec) in the city. It has a 108 horsepower engine, with Variable vavle timing with intelligence (VVT-i) That continuously adjusts the engine for certain conditions, such as providing more torque at lower speeds, and increasing fuel economy. It's a small car, with obvious good build quality, don't expect it to be luxurious, or the cheapest, but if you want something that's great on gas, but a little more expensive than the competition, this, or the Honda Fit, which is slightly more expensive, and slightly more comfortable, is a good choice. Vehicles like these aren't comparable to Chevrolet Cobalts, Ford Focuses, Toyota Corollas, Honda Civics, and the like, because they are not in the same price range.
A comparison of a Yaris to a Cobalt is comparing a Grape to a Tangerine.

Check out Toyota.ca [Canada] or Toyota.com [US]
or... Honda.com / Honda.ca

Sites like Edmunds.com give relatively unbiased reviews of vehicles, whereas Car and Driver & Motor Trend's websites' may tend to be slightly more power savvy.

A website that I VERY HIGHLY RECCOMENED is www.drivingtelevision.com where they give video reviews of vehicles, and their show is broadcast on Global Television in Canada. They are one of the least bias websites, and you can apply their information to everyday situations.

With regards to comparing the Yaris with the Corolla or Camry...
Yaris-Corolla: Yaris will be better on fuel, Yaris is available in hatchback, Corolla will be more comfortable, harder on fuel, more

It's a hip new style from Toyota competing with the Honda Fit
the chev optra etc its a small car around the size of a chevy aveo
so if that what you want you have got a good reliable toy and extremely fuel efficient I believe it comes with a 1.8L 4 cylinder or 1.6L go to a dealer and take a look they are actually quite nice the only thing I found odd was that the gauges are all set up in the middle of the dash instead of in front of the driver there reasoning is to give the driver less to look at and to keep his eye on the road instead of the gauges.

The Yaris, i think, is made for the College people; who live away from their parents; who can't afford that much, and doesn't want to loan because if they pay for a 30,000 car, and they can't pay it back, what will they do? When you see a college person with an expensive car, they either had their parents buy it or they got a loan and doesnt care about if they can pay it back, at least they look cool.

Yaris is here in the US. Think of it as your upgrade to an toyota echo. Its small yet big in size and all the above comes with it. Reliable, fuel etc.

The Yaris is available in the US. I don't believe it is in the same class with the Corolla or Camry. The Yaris is much smaller. Think of it like the Yugo of now.
