Perhaps he meant that Pilate's power comes from Ceasar but the power of Jesus' own people comes from God. Sinning against Ceasar, therefore, is not as great a sin as sinning against God.

Its an interesting metaphor, actually. It provides perspective on the role of religion versus the role of the state, from the standpoint of Christian belief. The Roman's had the right idea, though.

We're more fortunate than the Romans were I think, in that we live in a time when the state maintains a higher, more objective, rule than religious belief.

What Jesus meant when he said that was that inspite of not having real Power to sentence the Son of God, Pilate was soon going to be " forced" by the people to sentence Him to be crucified. He was saying that Pilate really had no choice in the matter. So Pilate's sin was less as compared to the person/s who had brought Jesus before Pilate for sentencing. They were accusing the Son of God and asking for his sentencing to death and hence they were doing this knowingly and willingly, so their sin was bigger than that of Pilate who was going to be "forced" to sentence Jesus.

Try to read the whole page!
Pilate therefore said to him, "Aren't you speaking to me? Don't you know that I have power to release you, and have power to crucify you?"

Jesus answered, "You would have no power at all against me, unless it were given to you from above. Therefore he who delivered me to you has greater sin."

At this, Pilate was seeking to release him, but the Jews cried out, saying, "If you release this man, you aren't Caesar's friend! Everyone who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar!"

(you need to read all the book to get the answer, like all books you need to get to the end to know how it ends not just one line then ask a question) "May god show you the way may you see the light"

I think you're talking about John 19:11, "You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above" Jesus is talking to Pilate. Pilate had just said "Don't you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?" and Jesus is telling him that he only has power over Him (Jesus) if GOD gives it to him. so, the verse continues,"Therefore the one who handed me over to you" ok now Jesus is talking about Caiaphas, the High Priest, who was the one that paid Judas for Jesus' capture. you see Judas was only the means of capture; Caiaphas was the one guilty of it. the verse still continues,"is guilty of a greater sin" Caiaphas was the one who set this whole plan in motion and either trapped everyone else in his plan (like pilate who if you remember wiped his hands of the death of Jesus) or brought them into it..so anyway he had committed a greater sin than Pilate. but Pilate was still guilty. Hope you understand the verse better. I used an NIV study bible...

He meant that the power given to us was only by god, his father. Who delivered him has greater sin which is Pilate.

Some believe that he was referring to Judas, since he was the one who physically handed him over. Besides, Jesus had called his apostles his friends. When a friend betrays you he is guilty of a deeper sin because of the closer bond than say a ruler like Pilate was. That is why Brutus and Judas, both betrayers of friends, are depicted in the deepest depths of Dante's Inferno with Satan eternally eating their heads.

God is the appropriate potential domicile, the appropriate King. His potential is countless. God components Jesus with the potential to act on His behalf. Jesus does no longer do a single element on his very own, until His father tells him. Jesus is given all of the potential to "act" in basic terms like a vice chairman is given all of the potential to act in ultimate a deal. this would not in any way dissipate or divide the potential of the president nor might it of God.

What he meant was that they have better casual sex than you do - the greater sin see. They probably swear and drink more than you as well. Although if you ask them nicely they might invite you along and then you can have great sins too!!

I don't believe for one moment that Jesus Christ existed, so it's sort of difficult to work out the meaning of words that were never spoken by him.
