That is true. Especially when dealing with fast food.
Crappy food is always cheaper than the healthier food.
It's also more abundant. There are usually more varieties in junk food than there are in wraps and salads. Which makes it more tempting to just order from the 'value' menu. At least now, some fast food places are putting side salads or their 'value' menus.
This is the reason why, if i'm dieting or trying to eat 'healthy', i mainly cook everything. It's also cheaper to just buy a large amount of groceries and cook all week then it is to spend $15-20 /day eating out.

I don't necessarily agree with it. If we're talking about processed foods, then you're right - processed food sold has 'healthy' (such as low fat spreads or sugar-free juices) is more expensive than burger and chips. But if you go and buy 1 packet of dry pasta and a few tomatoes (with which you can make a quick sauce) you'll spend less and feed more people. If you want to get into eating healthy you need to read more about what it really is all about and track down your local growers - fruit and veg are never more expensive than supermarkets because you don't have to pay some of the 'value added' stuffs (such as packaging).

Yes, I think you have got that right. But, if you think of it in terms of your overall health, isn't it worth it to spend a little more and get something that is actually good for your body. I like getting the salads at grocery stores that already have all the trimmings. They are around $3.00 each and they are a good lunch. If you want something that is good for you and doesn't cost as much, try making your own salads, wraps, rice or noodle dishes at home then bring it with you to eat for lunch or dinner. This usually saves a lot of money and you can still get a nice, healthy meal. ;-)

It can be, but it depends on what you choose and what brands. Pasta, rice, and beans are cheap. So are canned veggies on sale. A bag of greens is only $3 and feeds 2 people for 3 days. And make your own dressing, you can control the oil that way.
It's very possible to eat healthy without spening tons of dough.

That is a very good point.....however, if one were to forgoe fast food establishments and just go to the grocery store, it would still be a cheaper alternative for healthier eating.
If people would simply stop eating all the crappy processed foods available, and stick with fresh "whole" foods, fruits, veggies, etc, they would be amazed at the weight loss, not to mention how good they will feel.
Stick with whole grain breads and pastas, simple sauces made from fresh tomatoes, nice green salads made with red leaf or romaine lettuces and simple olive oil and vinegar dressings. It's not that expensive, and so healthy.
But you're so right, too many families are risking the health of their children with these so called bargain menus.

Yes, someone else finally gets it. Why are so many people overweight?? Because the healthy foods cost so much. It is sad that many of the poor of which I am one are overweight. We can't afford to buy the fresh foods and healthier cuts of meats forget about fish can't afford it. I only wish that the monies spent to pave the roads for preschool children to be able to ride on the highways was spent on feeding and educating families. It is true you can feed a family of four beans but everyday gets a bit old. Why should a family spend 5.99 for fruit juice when soda costs 1.25 and will allow the entire family to drink. It really is ridicules. Thank you for allowing me to vent on your question.

It is not you at all healthy food DOES cost more then junk food do because junk food is addictive and you want more and more so they get rich, and the people who eat healthy have to pay high anyway, I don't think me and you are the only ones who notice it.(they is referring to the store companys and such.)

yeah you are right with that but in the long run its a better investment to eat healthy. it shouldn't be so expensive, however, we don't live in a utopian paradise either.. so you kinda just have to deal with it and treat your body the best you can if you want to feel good. cut back other expenses and eat the veggie wrap:)

I agree. Healthy food seems to be more expensive and junk food seems to be cheap. I have noticed that also.

I agree. Kinda dumb that crap food is so cheap. Government should give us tax-free on healthy food. Health care costs would go down if people were eating healthy and not lard-asses.
