I have no idea what IGCSE (O'levels) is... but I'll assume they are final highschool or junior college...
The subjects you will want is Maths (calculus, statistics, linear algebra) Physics (particle, eletromechanical, optical), at least basic chemistry, and computer science (you should at least know fundamental programming in a language like basic, fortran or C).
The main thing to consider for your selection of subjects is to meet any prerequisites required for admission into the school/program you want. Contact your guidance department (they may have some course calendars from local universities which would list prerequisites) or contact the admissions department of the university you would consider attending.
Aside from the above, the selection of courses is fairly important to your success in first year. Although most engineering programs, start with courses in all the above (to bring everyone to the same page & refressher) - obviously having previous exposure to the topics will make your life much easier (1st year is a killer for many because they try to weed out the lazy and weak).
Lastly, don't be discouraged by the people telling you not to be an engineer... The work can be extremely interesting and challengin, and although the money usually isn't as good as lets say doctor or lawyer, it is still much better than teacher, police officer, pharmacist...

i'm a female mechanical engineering substantial. No offense, yet you're way too centred on what persons think of of you. in case you relatively, relatively love engineering for what this is, you will possibly by no skill permit lost critiques approximately your gender deter you out of your calling. for my area, I relatively have had a love of machines, steel, fabrication, and difficulty fixing because of the fact that i replaced right into a infant. I relatively have spent the final public of my life around solid male figures in engineering-sort settings and that i've got by no skill had an argument. That being mentioned, mutually as I m frequently "between the adult men", I don t take flack from every person for my gender. If somebody thinks i may well be vulnerable because of the fact i'm female, I tutor them incorrect. Society has (frequently) deemed women people to love "softer" issues, and a great sort of ladies people (basically my own commentary) do. this is why engineering has been found to be a male ruled profession. until now you sign in for the a number of maximum committed and sophisticated years of school, ask your self, "why do you % to be an engineer?" in case you cant provide an in intensity, passionate description as to why and what you intend to do as an engineer, this profession is in all probability no longer for you.

cawillms is right. But why in the world would you want to be an engineer? All you'll end up doing is making someone else rich. Unless, of course, you start your own company and let other engineers make *you* rich ☺

drop you mind buddy. engineering is not a fun place to be at!!! I went in i came out. if you want to get a degree in engineering math foundation and your science must be strong. but if you really want to be an engineer, my advice is common sense and creativity takes up most of the time.
