She's indicating that she thinks life is an ACTIVE process, rather than a static one. Obviously, the word "life" is, in fact, a noun. However, the act of living is not...it's her way of saying, "get up and live" rather than sitting there with your hands in your lap.

A verb is an action, and a noun is a person, place, thing or idea. Life is about living it, the action of living, not who you are or where you are or what you are.

A verb allows creativity and beauty. A noun is mostly inactive.

Great question!

A noun is a word which 'names' something, ie. 'table'.
A very is a word which describes what something is doing, what I like to call a 'doing' word, for example 'walking', 'eating', 'painting'.

What Gilman was saying is that life is for 'doing', that you must spend every day 'doing' something. Essentially, live life to the fullest, for that is how life should be lived.

I hope this helps you out!

More than likely she means life is a fluid thing, an action thing and not just as static as a noun.
