I have some female friends that plan to come visit for the weekend, but I don't know where to take them. Were in our early 20's. Its up to me to give them recommendations of where to dine and go while they are here for a few days. I haven't been here long myself. I'm looking for places to go within a short driving distance of Los Angeles area (west hollywod to be specific).

What do you guys recommend? Websites with places to go, Places to shop, etc.

Most everyone enjoys disneyland and to star search rodeo drive is the place but not for shopping unless you can afford to pay 100's for something that is only worth 20 . Universal studios is good and will take up a good part of a day. There is china town and the sidewalk with the stars and signed by them. Truthfully you need more than a few days to really get a feel for LA and there is alot to do. I would suggest getting one of those tourists brochures that they have in the hotel lobbies since they have everything there is to do and where everything is at.

Do they want to do the tourist thing?

I guess give Santa Monica (Third St and the pier) a try.
Venice Beach during the day.
Strolling along Abbott Kinney is nice too. And the restaurants there are nice so you can't go wrong I don't think.

Or if you want to go quiet and local I guess Manhattan Beach is nice. Hermosa Beach area as well.

Or you can try the Ghetty Museum. That's a pretty cool thing to do. Maybe not an early 20's kinda thing....

Hollywood and Highland?

LA can sometimes be really boring for visitors expecting fun filled adventures.

If you guys have never been to Disneyland it is worth the drive. They have the area called Downtown Disney with the House of Blues that has concerts and several restaurants. They also have several shops that are not Disney related as well. Plus it free to go to and free to park. You only have to pay to get into the park.

You can try the Grove at Farmer's Market, lots of places to shop and dine and there is also a cineplex. Maggiano's Restaurant is the place to be if you want great Italian food.
