If not for RELIGIONS-how many people would even think or consider or have an idea of a HELL or a Heaven-for that matter? These tools are what the philosophers of the day back then used to instigate their followers into practicing what "They" preached. and it was this desire to be perfect and to be loved that won over the intimidation that HELL and Hate provoke. It also leads to this very pertinent decision-HOW CAN YOU FOLLOW AN ALL LOVING GOD-if you know that he is going to BURN SATAN who he professes to LOVE. Not a pretty picture that you really want dwindling in your mind is it. And because you have an imagination you are susepible to images that are conjured by depictions of descrptions-or the scriptures. To read REVELATION is to see all kinds of ungodly creatures that will be awaiting you at DEATH-to Jugde you-It is why I feel that the Bible is more of a corruption mechanism than a tool for promoting peace and love. I Love Life-no explanation needed-HAPPYHOLLOWEEN Holy Ghost!

Either somebody thought it up or else it is God's Word.

Either scenario nullifies your question.

That is, if it was born first in the mind of man, then some philosopher, as you say, conceived of it, thereby proving that the human mind can conceive of it on its own.

If it was spoken from the mouth of God, then it is relevant, period.

I tend to believe God, and Jesus mentioned hell on a number of occasions...and since Jesus is God, I believe him.

How can I follow an all-loving God that is going to destroy evil, you ask? It seems reasonable to me that One who is all-loving and who is omnipotent can and will destroy that which is not love, i.e., evil.

Dude, I must say I do agree in many aspects. If God is all-loving, why would he send you here with the knowledge that you could potentially go to Hell? And it'd be his fault! If he sees all and knows all, wouldn't he do something to prevent that? I know that anybody that I love I would not subject to any kind of pain-let alone burning in an inferno for all eternity. Also, yea, so this Jesus guy died for everyone's sins...well, everyone dies. Sometimes, it's absolutely terrible-like burning alive or being slowly eaten by cats or something, I'd say that's way worse than being posted to a cross for a few days, and THEN, after those three days stating, "My God, why have you forsaken me?" Hell, if Jesus didn't even believe in 'God' and it only took days, what do they expect from us?! To believe in some crazy stories that have been passed down from generation to generation from a book that has been altered countless times and probably doesn't even have anything CLOSE to it's original meaning? Pft, I'll remain Agnostic, thanks. I'm not giving up on the idea that there might have been some truth in the stories, but the perfect account has been horribly skewed. Then again, maybe I'm headed down the road to Hell. Meh, we'll see.

the 1st "certainty" you're able to question is not any remember if there is an ever-burning place of torment (many times referred to as Hell) in any respect! The Bible helps NO such thought! The doctrine of "Hell" comes from historical Egyptian mythology, and it became tailored via a church that became (and nonetheless is) in complete lack of understanding of God's works and plans. God ("in whom there is not any darkness or shadow of turning" -- James a million:17, a million John a million:5) did no longer, and by no potential will, create a place like "Hell." What some have twisted and misconstrued as Scriptures that help that concept, is the main suitable DESTRUCTION of the wicked (Malachi 4:3, Matthew 10:28) and all evil works interior the universe. That fiery destruction won't undergo in the process eternity. God's promise to the wicked is they'd DIE, no longer stay endlessly (Ezekiel 18:4, 20-23, 33:14-15, and a great style of greater). yet they overlook approximately effortless and easy Scriptures like: Revelation 20:14 -- And dying and HELL have been solid into the lake of fireplace. it is the 2d dying. Hell isn't a place of eternal fireplace! that's something which would be DESTROYED via fireplace, alongside with all different lifeless works. "all of us understand that the devil needs the souls of all men (and girls persons) and needs us to devote evil on earth." No. The devil isn't interior the least bit attracted to all and sundry's soul -- ALL souls belong to God (Ezekiel 18:4). What the devil needs is to rule the universe. And if he believes that he will income that via destroying the works of God, that's what he does. His philosophy of "existence" is to do regardless of you sense like without regard for the welfare of others. He spiritually publicizes that attitude by using the earth. And the consequence is each and all the evil we see. "the two, all of us understand that God and little toddler Jesus desire us to be stable and that if we are they'll enable us to bypass to Heaven." God the daddy and Jesus Christ, his first born (and entirely mature) son, desire us to discover ways to love and do stable so as that each physique would be satisfied and rich. there is not any Scripture that states that folk bypass to heaven. particularly, God will come to and stay on earth (Revelation 21:2-3). .

Seeking a relationship with "God" predates governmental symantics. The fact that you even considered what God had to offer you through His word shows that you too have a desire to define the purpose of your life, because you feel meaningless in a universe that dwarfs your existence. Prosperity, good health, long lives, all promote wickedness, but humanity is evil by nature. You probably dont believe in the word evil, and as for its definition that I am using for context, you can look it up in any dictionary--that's the big book with the definitions of all the english words that are known to us. Use that rather than creating a new definition for the word "evil".

I see that you do think about the nature of the struggle of the ages, I commend you for your effort.
Do you also see the admonition of Jesus, "Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."
We should not become childish, but we must aproach spiritual matters humbly. If we have to understand it all, we are doomed to living within the confines of our minds, which is a very small place, indeed, compared to the mind of Christ. The gospel of John says that we cannot even be passively aware of the kingdom of God without being born again. After that step of faith, there are no limits to what knowledge awaits!

God Bless you in your studies.

The idea of Hell doesn't make me love Jesus, it makes me question him. Especially the point you made about how god is all loving yet is "burning" Satan in hell?

When I think about it the evolution of Hell is strange. Pre historic humans wouldn't have said Hell was full of fire because they loved fire. It meant warmth and survival. Wouldn't it make more sense for Hell to be frozen over? I'd rather be warm than freezing cold.

I find it so curious that so many people base their beliefs and stake their eternity on their own musings. On what foundation do you rest these beliefs?

I believe the Bible. I have tested it over and over and have found it to be true. I believe that God speaks to us and reveals Himself through the Bible, and I take Him very seriously.

So many people have the audacity to say that "God should be like this . . ." or "God should be like that." According to whom? Why should anyone get to define the parameters for Almighty God?

God Himself chose to communicate with us and tell us how things are, what He desires for us, and what is coming; I choose to listen and respond appropriately. You, and many others have perfect freedom to choose to criticize the way He goes about His business and tell Him how He ought to do things differently. Good luck with that.

When you were little didn't you get in touble for dis obeying your parents? And didn't that teach nus that there are consequences to bad behavior? Our laws are made for people who are like litte children who disobey. We've always had disobedience and as a result we will be judged for our choices in life, good or bad

Sit down and watch the Passion of The Christ.

It would help if you read the Book first but, whatever...
