What really happens to all of the letters to God and Santa Claus?

I don't work at the post office, so I don't know about the God letters, but I do know that there are certain places that actually respond to all those Santa letters. There are a few towns called "North Pole" and some places in Alaska that get people together, often Jr. High or HS students, to answer the letters, among other places.

I'm sure there are, but I'm not telling who they are, or what really happens to all the letters.
