Today I installed version 7 of IE but uninstalled it as it crashed every time a window was opened. However, now the other 2 accounts on this computer cannot access IE, My Computer or My Documents. I just get an error message saying:

Runtime error!
Program:c/windows/explorer.exe
This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

My account, the main account, works fine.

Can anyone please help fix this problem? Thank you!!!

Isn't the error message referring to windows explorer, not Internet explorer?

click Start > Run type or copy&paste sfc /scannow >OK (If you type, there is a space between sfc and /scannow)
Windows will look for outdated, corrupted or missing system files and prompt you when it finds one...Have your windows recovery cd handy.

1) a similar question is posted under Computer and Internet. Please the responses there.
2) do u get the same error when u use IE 6? If so, then it could be a Windows Explorer problem, else its specific to IE 7.
3) visit http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/default.mspx for more details.
4) u might want to contact the support team as per the above link. Identify the exact steps to repro. Does this happen while opening a specific site? What if u open a drive in IE?
5) the error is very generic, check the event log for a detailed error and search for the error string on the web.

This forum thread may be of help: http://help.lockergnome.com/windows/Explorer-exe-Terminating-Due-Runtime-Error-ftopict526991.html
A good tactic when you get error messages like this is to type them into Google and see what comes up. If this fixes your problem, I would recommend reinstalling IE7, as it does solve some security issues. I would also recommend using a different browser like Firefox (www.mozilla.com) or Opera (www.opera.com).

Uninstall it again and download again. When you reinstall you'll have to turn off all antispyware and anti virus programs. All except your firewall. This is because IE has a built in feature for malicious software removal designed for the upcoming vista.
Then it will run perfectly.

a couple of points,
1) did you uninstall before installing the later version ?

2) ditto when you reverted ?

3) if you did you can do a 'restore' and take your settings back to a date when everything was fine

I would recommend re-installing Internet Explorer. It is possible you selected an incorrect option during setup.

I too installed IE7 today and it runs fine - perhaps you entered details incorrectly - try uninstalling it and then downloading it again.

Go to >accessories> system tools> system restore and restore back to yesterdays system check point. This will restore your previous settings.
Hope this helps.
