It's not like this was unknow before the judas bible. Many biblical scholars viewed judas as the "enlightend" disciple who only did what he new had to be done. Judas was vilified do to the same thing that made Mary Magdeline a prostitute, PAPAL declaration. Yes, thats reight, the POPE DECLARED mary magdeline to be a prostitute. Dosn't apear anywhere in the bible, in fact, many parts suggest she was a woman of virtue, but the pope declared her to be a prostitute so now everyone believes it.
Heck, even jesuses divinity was decided by a vote.
Even tho it was rescinded in the 60's.
Oh, and the claims that the Judas gospel was writen "after the fact" so there fore must be fake, well, most of the included gospels were written 300-500 years after christ. So many people have this idea of the desciples writting the gospels almost as a journal, which is completely false. The gospels wernt written down untill mathew mark luke and john were long dead and buried.

just because it is authentic doesn't mean it is true. If Judas was such a good disciple, then why did he kill himself? Why did he betray Jesus? Why does the book of John say that Satan entered him? These are just a few things that don't make sense. Not to mention at that time the church was still very young, less than three hundred years old. While there were no longer any of the apostles left, you still had the scrolls that would later become scripture. If it would have matched up, then everyone would have accepted it back then, but it wasn't

That's the apparent story. If you believe the gospel of judas is accurate and not a fraud (which we've no reason to believe it's fake other than a few conservative republican preachers whining about it messing up their good line of bullsh*t) It states that Judas was Jesus' most favored disciple and he didn't want to betray Jesus but Jesus pretty much demanded it of him in order to further the divine plan. It makes sense too. We're told he hangs himself after Jesus is captured. How would you feel if you'd just basically helped your best friend commit suicide? Whether you did it out of duty or love, that'd still be one hell of a burden. Let alone knowing it was God's son you betrayed. So...yes. Check some sites online. You'll get all the info you need. Just don't go to religiously affiliated websites. Go to non-biased news sites and stuff. Jesus websites are usually fanatical zealots who twist everything to their liking.

All of Jesus' deciples were good, and if Judas wouldn't have killed himself, I'm sure Jesus would have come back and called on him just like he did Peter. But he served his purpose, that's all that matters.

I just read it. Its quite an amazing piece of writting, something to ponder over but I'm not surprised its getting such a bad press. The Gospel according to St Thomas had the same. It must be so comforting to be able to take only that you agree with and dismiss the rest and call it the one true religion and all else are lies.

No, the history of Judas presents the sad ending of a life that might have been honored of God. Had Judas died before his last journey to Jerusalem he would have been regarded as a man worthy of a place among the twelve, and one who would be greatly missed. The abhorrence which has followed him through the centuries would not have existed but for the attributes revealed at the close of his history. But it was for a purpose that his character was laid open to the world. It was to be a warning to all who, like him, should betray sacred trusts.

To be scripture writing have to meet certain critia. They must glorify God, and MOST agree with what is already there. If it doesn't it falls under the condemnation that is recorded in both the Old and New Testaments that the book can not be added to or taken away from. This idea adds to what is written and disagrees with what in already there... Jim

The Gnostic gospels, of which there are many besides this one, are not Christian documents per se, since they proceed from a syncretistic sect that incorporated elements from different religions, including Christianity.
Besides, Judas killed himself right after betraying Jesus. Even if written by anyone else, they waited a long time to even write it, like what a hundred years or so. It's not Cannon or even historically accurate.

The judas gospel was never included in the canon of Scripture, and with excellent reasons. It is one of many books written in the 1st century through the 4th century attempting to present fiction as history.
