I am studying Hebrews 5:1-4 where it seems to imply high priests still existing. Some people believe the high priests were no longer appointed after the Romans destroyed the temple. I didn't know the Romans destroyed the temple and the Jews apparently began meeting in synagoges and that's when Rabbi's came about. Where can I learn more about this? Is this in the Bible somewhere? Anyone have any good resources on the internet or at the library?

The Book of Hebrews was written before the destruction of Jerusalem, which happened around AD 70. The main historical source for the Roman campaign is the Jewish historian Josephus.

Rabbis are just general Jewish teachers, and existed long before the destruction of the temple. Jesus was known as a rabbi, as was John the Baptist. Jews actually started meeting in synagogues during th Babylonian captivity, the first time the temple was destroyed.

Read "The Jewish War", by Flavius Josephus. Nearly 2000 years old, it remains the standard work on the subject. The Pelican paperback is a good start.

The book is available in just about every public library of any size.
