Do you grind your teeth at night? Bruxism can also cause TMJ dysfuction. Before you go and assume it is TMJ ask your dentist about bruxism. It can be treated with an occlusal guard which would keep your jaw from becoming misaligned in your sleep. A lot of dental policies specifically exclude treatment for TMJ so I would check out the bruxism option first.

May want to press your finger into the joint and give a good loud OW. This will replace the cartilage back into proper position. Next you need to understand what is causing this condition in the first place. Should you take notice, there is a very tender place at the base of the skull. It will be mainly of one side. This is the muscle attachment for the neck muscles. One side being much tighter than the other. You may even notice the rotation of the head is restricted in the degree of rotation. When that tightness has been there for any length of time, it will cause a distortion of the skull and eventually include the jaw joint. You need to devise a way of stretching that particular muscle until it becomes equal with the other side. Should you have any problem getting this done you may want to consider visiting your local chiropractor and have him/her do it for you. But, that constant tension has to be overcome to allow any return to a normal state.

sounds like TMJ; my chiropractor was able to adjust my jaw and solve my problem; seeing a dentist for a mouth guard may be helpful or you can get a sports mouth guard (from Wal-Mart or a sports store) and follow the boiling directions to make it fit your mouth;

It's called T.M.J. I have it. Had to get braces a second time in my adult life to realign my jaw. Have it checked out. It only gets worse.

Sounds like TMJ, see your dentist. It can be an easy fix if it's caught early.

you sound like you have TMD (temporal mandibular-joint disorder). you need to see a dentist so he can put you on a treatment regimin. this is usually caused by high levels of stress, or just a faulty joint.
