I am about to buy a used car from a private party and someone told me that I have 3 months to pay the taxes on the car. So when I go to the DMV to do the title and everything, what will I have to pay right then and there?

I don't live in Louisiana but I would suspect the taxes get paid upon registering the vehicle. But I know some states require you to pay it when you file income tax under the "luxury tax" provision. I would call your local DMV for clarification!

In Indiana when you go to the DMV to switch the registration into your name and buy plates for your car, you will be required to pay the taxes right then. Legally this is supposed to be done within 10 days of purchasing the vehicle.

Its a quite dangerous suggestion. Just pay coins for a $3000 automobile. Interest fee can be 15-29%, repayments can be $seventy five-ninety five every week, $325-410 per 30 days and you are going to pay THOUSANDS greater than the automobile is valued at which means that despite $3000 down, you are going to have terrible fairness for years.

Whoever told you that is wrong. When you buy a vehicle you have a short amount of time to take care of the changes, putting it into your name, paying taxes, etc. Typically, depending on the state, that's about a week. You will have to bring everything up to date at that time to drive the vehicle.

Go to your state DMV website. You would have to pay for title and registration right away and then you have the XX amount of days thats specified to pay taxes.
