Buy organic - organic food is not grown with pesticides or preservatives, therefore, nothing to wash off besides the bacteria from other people touching the fruit. Best way to "wash" fruits and veggies is in a solution of VERY mild bleach water.
Fill your sink with water and add about 1tsp bleach. In the culinary world we would reference it as 400 parts bleach to 1,000,000 parts water (PPM = parts per million). Use a cloth to scrub anything off and rinse in clean water (without bleach) after "washing".
NEVER NEVER NEVER use soap as one person suggested.
Hope this helps!
