Simple faith in God will allow one to "graduate" to the next life when this material body dies. However, the next life is not "Heaven" if you are referring to the eternal abode of God, sometimes also referred to as "Paradise." God's command to us is "Be you perfect, even as I am perfect." It will be quite a long journey of learning, billions of years, before we become experientially perfect even as God is existentially perfect. Only then will we be spiritually qualified to enter Paradise and stand in the immediate presence of God.

If you want the answer for eternal life from the christian bible, then you need to look in Luke, chapter 10. Jesus gave the answer there in perfectly clear terms.

********************
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
26 "What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?"

27 He answered: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

28 "You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."
********************

Love God and love your neighbor. It doesn't get any simpler than that. Jesus said, "Do this and you will live." Do you believe him?

According to the Holy Bible and most Catholic and protestant churches (Baptist-Episcopal Methodist- Pentecostal etc.):
you must
Believe in God the creator of all that is
Believe in the Holy Bible, God's Holy word
Believe that God's son Jesus was born of the virgin Mary, lived a sin free life, was killed by being hung on a cross to die for everyone's sins
Ask God to forgive your sins (the Bible says that everyone has sinned - (not done things God's way)
Ask Jesus to come and live in your heart
Then you would be saved from going to hell.
To keep from living a life of sin, you would then read the Bible, Pray to God in Jesus Name, and go to church to be around other believers.

We never left. Heaven is not a place, it is our true state of being, as we remain just as God created us. That is, the truth of us.

You have to accept Jesus Into your heart and believe that he died on the cross for your sins. Its the ONLY WAY to get to heaven you cant just get there by doing "good works " or being a "good person" you have to want to accept jesus into your heart and you have to ask him into your heart and ask him to forgive you for YOUR sins.

One does not need to belong to any group/religion to get to heaven. A groups teaching is a mere guide. What is important is one do things that cannot harm himself or others. He/she must be a perfect example and/or influence other on deeds that promotes peace and harmony among mankind.

Strive to do good deeds, and repent of your bad deeds. It is what we DO, not what holy book we read, what worship service we attend, or what creed we recite, which truly matters to God. Always pay attention to your conscience, and look for guidance when you feel unsure. Trust that God knows your heart and will sort it all out when the time comes.
