Even though the words are similar, I would say that ego and alter-ego are not really equivalent concepts in meaning or weight. (we all have an ego but an 'alter ego' or alternate personality is not universal nor on the same playing field as ego) I don't see those concepts as being on opposite ends of a continuum. Yes we have to keep our ego in check, keep it from controlling all we do, but then again 'alter-ego' is not that balancing point. Some would suggest that an 'alter-ego' is a form of mental sickness (the concept evolved from study of schizophrenia) where others would simply say that it is fantasy (harmless and even healthy as long as it doesn't take over from reality). In any case, I don't think that the 'alter-ego' is going to keep the ego in check (it may even add to egocentricity). I would say that we need to keep our ego 'in balance' with humility, selflessness and compassion for others.

My alter ego and the old me have sort of merged together, probably because I keep switching between both a lot that they've actually become one. So, this is basically a combination of both.
By alter ego I mean the ones in my actual life, I don't have an internet alter ego if that's what you're asking.

.
This is the real me.
In real life, I am ready to help others, but most people are slow to ask... so many people like the anonymity of asking here.
If someone asks me advice, I give it gently, and hope it helps them.

I just want to share what it took me a lot of mistakes and experience, to finally learn.
I have successful relationships with many people now, and know well not to "expect" too much from any one. We all are imperfect.
We should all try harder to understand each other. But first, we should take the time to get to know the most important person we will ever meet: YOURSELF

I have always been a problem solver, and a relationship arbitrator since I was in high school. So this is me...definitely.

I wish you love

I believe that many people use this site to bring out their "alter ego". Alto of people have alto in their minds that they would like to say or express, but don't dare try it on a person to person venue......but in here, it's easy to let out your true colors, and be able to say anything you feel without being worried about someone knowing your true identity. It gives people a little more courage to say and do things they wouldn't normally do.....and even do things they would usually preach against to people they know in their normal lives. So yes.....I definitely believe that many people use this forum to bring out their alter egos. On the other hand, there are people such as myself who honestly try to be as open and as helpful as possible when answering the questions. I'm not trying to sell a "persona", an idea or an agenda in here.....I just like answering the interesting questions as objectively as possible. So far it's been fun.....except for the moment when this place gets overrun by ridiculous, unnecessary and pointless questions.
Best of Luck!

It's how I feel in the real world I make a point not to type anything that I wouldn't say to someones face.

No alter ego here...I can't contain the one ego I have, let alone trying to manage another one...

Some people on here are for real, others I have found to use this as an amusement outlet.
You decide.
